How does Medicare Supplement Insurance work?

Medicare Supplement Insurance offer 10 individual supplement plans called Medigaps (labeled A through N). Medigaps offer standarized and predetermined coverage. The Medigap plan you choose depends on your preferences for coverage and payment (see plans below).

Many people discover that even with Original Medicare, copays, coinsurance, and deductibles can be quite high. A supplemental plan like Medigap can help shield you from unexpected medical bills. After Medicare pays its share, your Medigap policy will typically cover the remaining costs.

A Great Option to Consider

A significant advantage of Medicare Supplement insurance is the absence of required networks, unlike most Medicare Advantage plans. This gives you the freedom to see any physician who accepts Medicare, even when traveling far from home.

It’s important to note that Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement are two distinct types of insurance, and you cannot enroll in both simultaneously. While a Medicare Advantage Plan combines various parts into one bundled plan, it doesn’t necessarily provide complete coverage. To maximize your coverage, customize your plan, and ensure you can see any doctor regardless of network restrictions, Medicare Supplement Insurance is an excellent choice.
